Sampling new teas from Twinings

Back in February, I know many of us took advantage of an offer from Twinings to send us three free samples of tea of our choice. Has everyone received their samples yet?

I was so happy when mine came, and I can't believe Twinings goes to this much trouble to personalize their sample offerings! (What a great marketing technique, though.)

The first tea I sampled was this Green Tea with Pomegranate, Raspberry and Strawberry. Some pomegranate-flavored teas I've tried are too tart, but this one was just perfect, perhaps balanced by the berry flavors. I very much enjoyed this tea and will look for it in stores.

I had assumed the green tea would be my favorite of these samples until I tried the Honeybush, Mandarin and Orange herbal tea. I loved it! It had the most pronounced orange flavor I've ever found in a tea, so I hope I can buy a whole box of this one in the near future.

The only disappointment was this Spiced Apple Chai tea. When I opened the foil packet, the tea smelled heavenly, and I was instantly transported to fall and apple festivals, warm sweaters and cinnamon brooms. But steeped? The tea smelled like dirt! It's the exact whiff I get when I open my bag of potting soil, and I was so disturbed by the dirt smell and funky, earthy taste that I couldn't finish the cup of tea. So, those were my experiences with the Twinings samples. How were yours?

  2. I received my samples but have only tried Christmas Tea. I really enjoyed it, I could not find that tea around Christmas time but will look earlier for it. Thank you Angela for the link!

  3. I received my teas last week, but it has been sooooo hot around here (and we hadn't turned the AC on yet) that I couldn't bear to think of a cup of hot tea. Today is different though, since a cool front came in last night. I plan to brew myself a nice cuppa later this morning. Thanks for letting us know about Twining's generous offer!!

  4. I received my teas two weeks ago, but non of them were the ones that I selected. So a little disappointed here, although they were still good.

  5. Mine arrived last week; I had completely forgotten I'd requested them, so a sweet surprise! I haven't sampled them yet but I selected: Pomegranate & Raspberry (herbal), Irish Breakfast (decaf), and Lady Grey (decaf). Thanks for sharing the offer! You've got me interested in looking for the orange flavor.

  6. Mine arrived, too. I have the Pomegranate Raspberry, China Oolong and English Afternoon to try. Will have to look for the Honeybush Mandarin ... sounds so good!

  7. Hi Ang, I rec'd mine a little while ago too and haven't tried them yet - it's either been a no-time-for-tea day or drink-alcohol-instead kind of day, or more often than that (I am not much for drinking for sure) it's been a strong pot of Tips which is way too strong but gets me going.

I will be savoring mine soon and will share asap. Can't wait for the right moment. Sad life is as such that sampling and savoring a simple bag of tea has to be postponed, aye?

  8. I'd also forgotten I ordered them until they arrived on Friday. I liked the "naturally caffeine free" Honeybush Mandarin and Orange so much that I ordered 6 boxes from Twinings (due to their minimum requirement ) using the 20% discount coupon. I've developed terrible heartburn this year and have had to give up on my favorite black flavored teas. This tea was wonderful and hasn't bothered me. My grocery only Carrie 4 Twining flavors so Despite the high shipping cost I went for it - my new favorite.

  11. I did get my samples, but so far the only one I've tried is Lady Grey. It was good but I think I like regular Earl Gray better. I have "Winter Spice" (which I've had before and liked - no caffeine) and Darjeeling to try next. Glad to have the warning about the Chai - what a disappointment!

  12. Is it pronounced "twine-ings" or "twin-ings"? Always wondered.

  13. I ordered Darjeeling, Blackcurrent Breeze, and the decaf Lady Earl Grey. This is hard to believe, but I had never (to my recollection) had Darjeeling, so that's why I ordered it and it was very good. Still haven't tried the Lady Earl Grey yet, but the Blackcurrent Breeze is fabulous! I don't find any blackcurrent flavored teas very often and I just love the taste. Thanks for telling us about this!

  14. Thanks Angela for the Twinings tea tip! I received my sample last week - love Lady Grey. I am very happy I now know how to pronounce the tea name correctly - Twine-ings! Yahoo.

  15. Darjeeling, English Breakfast, Prince of Wales. I rec'd my samples last week. I had picked up a box of the Spiced Apple Chai. I do not care for it. I don't taste the chai or the tea.

  16. My samples arrived last week: English Afternoon, Chai with Pumpkin Spice and Chai Ultra Spice. So far I only sampled the pumpkin spice chai. I love anything pumpkin! The aroma was wonderful, but I was disappointed in the taste. Much too much cardamon for me. The tea lost its sweetness. I'm looking forward to the English Afternoon, a lighter alternative to English Breakfast.

  19. Hi Angela,
Have had mine several weeks, have been hoping you would do a post.
I also chose the the Grenen Tea And loved it! Can't wait until I see it in the store. I also choose the BlackCurrent Breeze, loved that one also. It had the flavor I was looking for (ever since I had the Black Current Tea at the Madison Tea Room, I have been on a hunt). My 3rd one I have not tried yet--organic Rooibos Tea.
Have not been drinking tea long, although I have love your blog for longer than I have been drinking tea.
I have been off coffee for about a month. I am looking for a good strong flavored coffee for the morning --any suggestions.

  20. Thank you for posting about this. Thanks to you (and Twinings!) I received Darjeeling, Orange Bliss and Organic Jasmine. Have you ever received the Fancy Flours catalog? When I received the late spring edition I thought of you tea bloggers. If you view the digtial edition, pages 6-7 you will see why. http://mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?i=253419 I don't work for them. Just a customer and always love their catalogs, the layouts always make me want one of everything. Thanks again. I enjoy your blog.

  21. I received my teas last week. I also enjoyed the Green Tea with Pomegranate, Raspberry and Strawberry. I think it would make a nice iced tea. I also got a mixed berry black tea and a blackberry ? black tea. I may be wrong about the blackberry, it was some other berry. Both were good. Sadly I can't find any of the fruity Twinings teas locally. Might have to take advantage of that coupon they sent.
