Saturday entertainment: Teacup Fairy Garden #2

Last week, my friend Lynn K. thoughtfully sent me a complete kit for another teacup fairy garden, and I had so much fun putting it together on my potting shed on Saturday. All I had to add was dirt (and the remaining bit of moss I found), because everything else was provided, including the teacup! 

I must confess that I was tempted to use the teacup for tea first, but instead of saving it, I went ahead and used it for the new fairy garden.

This one is presided over by its very own guardian angel with a little bling on her wings. I love her! (I like to think it's me back when I was still a brunette, ha!) I felt like I was playing paper dolls as I surrounded her with the acorn-capped mushrooms, toothpick flowers, and garden ladder, which are such sweet, sweet touches.

Naturally, one of my favorite features of the kit was this tiny little glass teapot perched on a bottle-cap "table." Precious!

And a little bluebird of happiness found a home on this decorate seashell. Since I love anything that calls to mind the beach and the ocean, I imagine the fairies will appreciate this too.

Finally, it never hurts to sprinkle a little magic into one's fairy garden, the perfect finishing touch for this new tiny treasure! (And thanks again to Lynn for providing some much-needed entertainment during these days of quarantine!)

A teacup fairy garden

And suddenly, I'm finding myself with more leisure time than I would have imagined. Saturday, I started redoing the flower beds at the front of the house. I already see improvement, but boy, were my legs aching that night from all the bending and squatting. So while I thought about continuing that work on Sunday after attending Sunday school and church (virtually), I decided to start working on my fairy garden.

Really, all I had so far was the teacup planter, two decorative signs (one of which didn't seem to fit well), and the little china tea set. So like all of us who are staying at home these days, I had to get imaginative. I didn't have a table or table base, so I used the tall cup from a tea tasting set I received from a tea vendor some years back.

The table top is a little Wedgwood dish that I believe I got from a thrift store. I think I bought it just because the pattern is called "Angela."

The tea set? I have no idea where I got this tiny tea set, but I've had it for a while and saved it for just this purpose.

I'd been meaning to pick up sheet moss from the craft store, but since I couldn't run to a craft store this weekend, I got some moss from the backyard (and thanked the Lord for having craft supplies on hand just when I needed them). I love moss!

I hope the fairies like their new home, and I hope they—and you—are sheltering in place and staying safe!

Some things are just mint to be …

So one of my weekend goals was to go ahead and get some mint growing for iced tea (it's supposed to hit 80 here in Georgia this week), but I didn't have time to run by any of the local garden centers. 

Fortunately, Ingles grocery store had a few mint plants in the produce section, so I tossed one in my cart.

This mint doesn't say what variety it is, but I like all mints, so I'm sure I'll be happy with whatever it is. I also like that it's an organic plant that's grown in the US.

And while I'm not ready to plant a fairy garden just yet — my largest teacup planter has cracked and is going to need replacing first — I've started gathering items for the fairy garden, including the little teapot on a tree. Perfect, isn't it? It was on sale at JoAnn the other day for half off.

I also got a cute shepherd's hook marker to let the fairies know they're welcome.
