I'm not above copying a good idea, so when I saw a photo of a pretty paper lace doily placed beneath a teacup the other day, I decided I rather liked the idea!
As luck would have it, I had just received some beautiful linen coasters edged in tatted lace. They were a surprise gift from my tea friend Nancy in Puerto Rico.
And I must say I love the elegant touch it gives to add one of these to the teacup and saucer. There were six of the lace coasters in the set, and now I'm fairly sure I know what I'm going to do with them!
They are quite beautiful - and perfect- and is a VERY thoughtful gift from your far-away friend Nancy!
ReplyDeleteI almost always use paper doilies on teacups when I have a party so it catches the drips if a guest were to add something to her tea. Nice if it doesn't pool at bottom on saucer after she lays her little spoon on the side of it....only to drip on HER when she lifts her cup. The doilies seem to eliminate that possibility.
Of course your linen ones are just for show and protection, as if you were to serve tea like that they risk getting stained. (Yikes.) And they are truly exquisite, indeed, much too nice to risk becoming stained! : - )
Hugs. ♥
What gorgeous doilies! I love the tatting around the edge. And yes, it is lovely in your teacup and saucer.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful gift. Now why didn't I think of that...a simple elegant solution to a messy problem. I just added paper doilies to my shopping list. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI use little paper doilies often under my teacups because I think it makes them look more elegant. Your little tatted coasters are really sweet and a thoughtful gift from your friend. We have the same teacup too. Love the aqua! Have a lovely day, Angela.
ReplyDeleteI had a dear friend who "dressed" all her china with doilies. She had fabric, linen, paper ... you name it. Even had some that dressed wine glasses -- they had a slit that the foot settled right into. Never had a problem with getting her a gift ... collected doilies of all kinds all year and gave them as a gag gift at Christmas. What a hoot! Thanks for the memories and enjoy those gorgeous linen doilies.
ReplyDeleteSome of the tea rooms I've been to put a paper doily under the teacup but your linen ones are very nice and being that size must be meant for this.
ReplyDeleteThat does add a nice touch. That is a really an adorable tea-cup and saucer. Deb
ReplyDeleteBeautiful idea!
ReplyDeleteThese are so pretty- they really set the teacup off! What a thoughtful gift (and pretty and useful!) Enjoy, Joanie
ReplyDeleteAngela, I am so glad you like the doilies. They seem to call your name. Turquoise or any blue is my favorite color, so I love that you showed the doilies under that beautiful cup. Blessings
ReplyDeleteThe cup with the lace coasters is just lovely. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! So pretty! I would be afraid I would get tea stains on them though.
