This is my great-grandmother's secretary, which was handed down to me many years ago now. I began to notice that the things I was displaying in it weren't showing up very well, and it hit me that the colorful chintz in my white kitchen cabinet might look better here, while the pink Depression glass in this mahogany secretary would almost certainly look better there.
Yes, I definitely like this better with the chintz displayed against the dark background.
I don't have that much chintz, but what I do have I really treasure, whether it's my Royal Winton Welbeck chintz or the no-name Japanese chintz sugar and creamer I recently found for $1.99!
A few chintz teacups, old and new, are now in this cabinet as well. I once heard a decorator's advice to occasionally shuffle things around in your home because that makes you feel like you've gotten something new, and I definitely find that to be true. I'm still working on prettifying the pink glasswares in the white kitchen cabinet, but hopefully I'll have that little project to share in a few days as well!
What a beautiful secretary, and I like the idea of moving things around, I'll have to try that soon. Your chintz collection is lovely, too. I really like chintz, but already collect so many different types of china and glassware, I don't dare start collecting anything else!
ReplyDeleteYes, that looks great! The light contrasted against the dark background really shows the china to best advantage.
ReplyDeleteLove your collection of chintz! And love it displayed in the secretary.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I had not thought of using my mother's secretary for china display, but it is perfect, so one day I will do that! Thank you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteYes they look just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI really like the yellow chintz and remember when Victoria magazine had it for sale in the back pages long ago - wish I'd bought something. I'll have to look for it at the antique markets.
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to see what others have in their china cabinets, or secretary like yours. The lady that babysat me when I was in primary school had one similar.
What a great idea, to shuffle things around. I may have to try that myself.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks beautiful displayed in the secretary. Love the chintz!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking display, Angela and the fact that it was your great Grandmother's secretary makes it so special. Those bright colors really stand out against the dark wood - very pretty. Hope you're having a nice week, Joanie
ReplyDeleteLove, love your chintz. I have the same teapot, one platter, and one cup and saucer. They look so pretty in the cabinet. Yes, I also like shuffling things around from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely display! I, too love chintz and have my aun't secretary. But it's filled with books. Maybe I'll have to rethink that...

Your china collection looks lovely in your great-grandmothers secretary. The dark wood makes a nice contrast.
