My "thrif-tea" tea storage solution

For months now I've been looking for a rack to hang on the inside of the kitchen pantry door to hold tins and packages of tea. I checked the usual suspects (Walmart, Target) and all of my favorite discount stores (T.J. Maxx, Homegoods, Marshalls, Ross) and came up with zilch. I couldn't believe no one makes simple racks anymore, but then I found the rack I'd been looking for last week in a surprise place: Goodwill!

For just $4.94, I now have a nicely installed rack (thanks to my husband and his drill) that holds 21 different teas at the moment. (And no, not all my teas fit on there. That was a surprise, because I would have sworn to you I was almost out of tea!)

The rack was a plain and simple design, just what I wanted, but it had no apparent means of hanging. We used cup hooks to hold the lightweight rack, and I am so very, very happy every time I open that pantry door to select a tea. I even tried quickly slamming the door to see if those boxes of tea on the bottom shelf would slide off, but they did not. It's a perfect storage solution, and it definitely helped me get a handle on how much tea I do, in fact, have. Just curious: how and where do you store your teas?

  2. What a lucky break to find the rack at Goodwill. I have a cabinet in the kitchen with shelves and two cupboards where I store my tea, a couple of teapots, prettiest mugs and other accessories.

  4. I store all my tea in a humungous Tupperware box on the top shelf of my pantry.

I have few tins, most of mine are in bags. I have a zip lock of various small bits and tea swap kinds and a few tea bags, etc.

Hey, you should start a tea swap once the shower is over, that could be kinda fun sharing some of our favs with a few tea sister friends. I have partaken in a few of them over the years and it was a lot of fun. : - )

  5. Great idea! Mine are jumbled up on one shelf in the pantry! I do have my teavanna teas (2 oz packets) in a plastic bin standing up sort of like a filing system. But tea boxes come in such an array of shapes and sizes! Thanks for sharing!

  6. That rack is perfect for your pantry door. Do you find yourself walking to the pantry just to admire all the teas? My boxed teas are in a drawer about 15x18 inches, just shallow enough for one layer of boxes. Tins and odd shaped containers are in a narrow cupboard just above this drawer.

  7. Don't ya just love Goodwill?! I check it out about once a week. Today while I was in there, I spied a pretty teacup and as I made a bee-line over to it, a little old lady picked it up and put it in her basket. I heard her say it was $2.00 and kept hoping she'd put it back. But that didn't happen. So sad!

  8. Great idea! I don! Have a good storage system and end up with tins on the counter and boxes in a basket. This is a much better solution.

  9. I love this! How fortunate to find it at Goodwill. Mine are all crammed on a little shelf. Like you I sometimes think I am running low on tea until I start sorting through them. I almost panic, then remind myself I can get more.

  10. I love to see an "in search of" quest conquered! My tea is stored haphazardly in my kitchen cupboards. But I would love to find a vintage library catalogue or apothecary-style cabinet for tea storage.

  11. This looks very similar to a (smaller) rack I bought from Lowes about 15 years ago. It was part of whatever brand of closet organizers/systems they sold at the time. Enjoy your new space!
