Name that seed! Anyone? These came off a plant I recently bought (go here and check out the next to last photo to see the seeds while they were still on the plant).
Yes, these are camellia sinensis seeds! When I started plucking them off my new tea plant, I remember thinking they were large and not small, brown seeds like the ones I bought on eBay years ago. (The ones I unsuccessfully tried to grow!)
I sat the seeds on a baker's rack in my kitchen, and I was surprised to find they were soon popping open, revealing the brown seeds inside. I'm saving some of these for my garden club's upcoming seed swap and hope to barter for a few new goodies of my own. But first, I'll be looking up some propagation instructions on the web in hopes of a better growing experience with my camellia sinensis seeds. If I can't do it, I'll bet my fellow garden club members can!
Garden club-Ah, to me sounds so lovely.Yes,I grew up with those seeds in Our yard.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine your seeds will be sought after at the swap and I hope you find some things that will interest you.
ReplyDeleteAren't they amazing seeds!?
ReplyDeleteThose seeds look fabulous. Never saw a pod that opened by itself like that. Good luck planting!!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I hope you can get them to grow successfully this time.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Your gardening skills continue to impress me!
ReplyDeleteI knew right away what I was seeing. This year we are going to save them and try going more plants. After all two plants is not enough. I understand they gave seeds away at the World Tea Expo and now I have seen several small sprouting plants on Facebook. So fun! Hope you can successfully sprout some.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! I had no idea the seed was in a pod like that.
