Rose chintz & a sticky situation

This cup and saucer, in the Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz pattern, is part of the set of dishes I use as "everyday" dishes. My maternal grandmother gave me many of the vintage dishes about 15 or so years ago when I first admired them (she'd found them for next to nothing at Goodwill, I believe). Since then, I have been pleased to find reproductions of this pattern in stores and antique malls, so I happily mingle dishes old and new.

Recently at HomeGoods, I came across an oval Rose Chintz vegetable bowl and two berry bowls in "my" pattern, pieces I'd never had before.

Getting the adhesive stickers off dishes - old stickers, new stickers - can be difficult, but several years ago I learned of an easy and effective way to remove stickers. Just in case there is some reader who *doesn't* know of this trick (please tell me there's at least one of you!), a blowdryer allows you to quickly remove the stickers when a blast of heat is aimed at the spot for just a few seconds. Happy dishes = happy owner!

  1. That Rose Chintz is a pretty pattern. I didn't know about using the blowdryer to remove stickers. My favorite method is "un-du" liquid.

  3. I do love this pattern, I see a lot of it at TJ Maxx.
But the info on the stickers is priceless!!!! I can never get it all off. I use Goo B Gone & can't stand the smell. Now, I'll have to go buy something new so I can try it!!!!

  4. Your Rose Chintz dishes are very pretty. I often use a blow dryer to remove stickers but when that fails, I have to resort to Goo Gone.

  5. I didn't know that about using a hair dryer. I usually soaked them off in water. Thanks, I'll try that!

  9. I use Hellmann's Real Mayonnaise to remove labels since I usually have it on hand.

  10. That's a great idea!! I usually stand at the kitchen sink wasting hot water, scalding myself and chipping my thumbnail trying to scrape those tags off. Thanks Angela, you can feel safe, you've helped at least one person!

Those dishes are very pretty, I've seen them around too, I love the soft colors.

  11. So beautiful, I bought this set in TjMaxx because of your blog years ago. I love it.

Angela, I looked for a way to e-mail you. I hope that you don't mind that I ask a question here. I need your creative tea-brain. We are running a Valentine Dinner Dance at our church. I bought boxes of Bigilow White chocolate kisses and Sweatheart tea bags to give each person as a little, cheap take-home. I love the packaging and thought it looked very Valentine. Other than hand them all a tea bag, I am looking for creative ways to package it for them, inexpensively. You are so creative, any ideas? Thanks so much.

  12. Christa, you have reminded me I need to add an "e-mail me" button, because I certainly don't mind helping with tea requests if I can! My first thought would be to package the teabags in a pink, white or red organza bag (very inexpensive at craft stores), perhaps with a Hershey's Kiss or two tossed in!

And if you're papercrafty or have a friend who is, I absolutely love this idea from my friend Maureen (ParTea Lady), who gave me one of these cute tea-tucking cards for Christmas:

    Hope that helps!

  13. Oh, Angela you are the best! Thanks so much for your reply. I like the organza bag and kisses idea. The tea package itself it so cute, I don't think I want to cover it with a folder, but a good idea to keep in mind. Again, thanks for your help, Angela.
