Chinese Take Out Fabrics

Do you set your crafting aside for the summer? I often do, especially now that I've been bitten by the gardening bug, but thanks to lots of recent rain and a weekend of rare free time coming up, I'm itching to do some stitching. I've decided to actually try to *finish* a project already underway, so I've been stitching a lot of yo-yo's to complete the yo-yo quilt that's been in the works for a while. Not one to let my stash decrease, though, I recently acquired some new tea-themed fabrics thanks to a thoughtful e-mail alert about them from my tea friend Ginger in North Carolina. These Lyndhurst Studio fabrics are by Sheri Berry, and the design is called Chinese Take Out. I love Chinese food and I love teapots, so what's not to like!

I actually found this first fabric "live" at A Scarlet Thread quilt shop in McDonough. I love that the teapots have teabags hanging down the side.

The coordinating fabrics were found online. I like this one with its hip looking stripes.

And I also liked these two coordinating fabrics. I'm poring through my quilt magazines to find a pattern for a small quilt or wall hanging to make with these, and even though I haven't decided what to make just yet I'm tickled with these new fabrics. Now, back to those yo-yo's!

  1. I love the fabric! Usually I take the summer off from crafting, but we've had rain, rain, rain! So I'm still crafting and one thing I'm doing is covering a Chinese take out container!

  2. You are right. These are great colors and the patterns, great. I particularly like what I think is the cherry blossom design. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

  7. I'm so glad you were able to find the fabrics. If you want to make something other than a quilt you could make a purse or zipper bag. I've never made this bag: http://www.made-by-rae.com/2009/02/free-buttercup-bag-sewing-pattern.html but it only uses a fatquarter. It gets rave reviews on other blogs and forums. Or these are cute bags: http://www.keykaloupatterns.com/ some of them can be found at youcanmakethis.com/ too. There are tons of other cute bags, etc at YCMT. This is a cute bag, if you need a travel bag: http://www.youcanmakethis.com/info/featured-products/Zippered-Boxy-Bag.htm I also own 2 patterns from http://www.thisandthatpatterns.com/patterns_bags.php that are similar (Mallory's Big Bag and Abby's Treasure Box). Or depending on how much of the fabric you purchased you could make a fun summer skirt. Whatever you make, I can't wait to see it.

  9. Love, love the fabrics. I know you will find just the right quilt to make with them. Wouldn't they make a cute tea cozy with contrasting fabric on the inside?
