A terrific new read: Verily magazine

As Joan Rivers so famously says, "Can we talk?" Because we tea lovers are some of the reading-est gals I know, I thought I'd take a different tack today and mention a terrific new magazine that we middle-aged gals do not need to read — we're technically too old for it! — but that I think we should know about as influencers in the lives of younger women. It's called Verily, a magazine for 20-somethings and 30-somethings, and oh, do I wish this magazine had been around when I was part of that demographic!

Now I read just about any magazine I can get my hands on, but in my twenties and thirties I found little in the magazine world that spoke to me with the notable exception of Victoria magazine. Back then, I absolutely *loved* the fact it was such a timeless, classy publication. That's the kind of young woman I was trying to become, and I didn't see that reflected in the Cosmos and Glamours and Mademoiselles of my day. So I stuck with Victoria, and I even remember sitting on my porch one day, savoring the new issue, and reflecting on the fact that this magazine never made me feel bad about myself. It didn't tell me I needed to speed date or be a size 2 or have collagen injected in my lips. No, this magazine made me feel smarter, and made me celebrate being a woman. I often wondered why so many other publications didn't get that, especially the ones aimed at young women. Imagine my delight, then, when I heard about a new fashion and lifestyle magazine called Verily which is, according to one of its editors, "a magazine that leaves women feeling refreshed and motivated after reading it; that affirms women in their noble aspirations to grow and improve the community around them; that champions health and happiness not in spite of their femininity, but because of it; that showcases beauty that doesn’t degrade the dignity of the person, but embraces it; that offers strong and honest journalism to broaden women’s knowledge of the world." This, friends, is my kind of magazine. Once I heard all the buzz, I ordered a copy of the premier issue thinking I might pitch them an article on tea one day. Someone beat me to it, which just confirms that this magazine is every bit as smart as I hoped it would be! If you have a young woman in your life who could benefit from reading Verily, or if you're interested yourself, go here to learn more.

  1. Maybe I'll get an issue for my daughter, and I'll read it, too!

  2. I have to admit, I read everything in Victoria myself and always enjoy the articles which leave me feeling good.
Other magazines I skip over articles because I don't need to read depressing life stories and encounter a ton of advertising, none of which interests me.
Glad you found a new magazine that is reader worthy, even if it's for the younger crowd. Too bad they already have a tea article too, you would have contributed something engaging.

  3. I always said the original Victoria was like a mini vacation on the day it would arrive. Though I enjoy the Victoria now, it just doesn't have the same feel to me.
Verily does look like a special magazine and I enjoyed checking out some of the articles on their website. Thanks!
There are getting to be a whole new adventure into magazines these days and I am finding several I love to pick up or read online.
