How to Tea Party in the Snow!

Wedgwood makes it look so easy, but I can tell you that sculpting a teapot is hard work! When I heard we would be getting our incredible *second* snow day of the year here in Georgia on Friday, I knew I would try to make a snow teapot if we got enough snow, and we did! And thanks to my creative friend Susan West (more on her below), I was inspired to make treats for my "snow tea party," including ...

Flower-shaped snow teacakes! That Nordicware pan really came in handy, and if I'd had some girlfriends around I have a feeling we could have really come up with a great tea party in the snow!

Now you'll have to use your imagination here, but I used my large rose-shaped Bundt pan to make this "snow rose cake." Kind of hard to see, but hey, Georgia girls don't have very much experience photographing snow!

I was puzzled by a few of these little elevated snowballs that appeared in the driveway Saturday morning. What on earth?

Aha! Sweetgum balls! If I had planned in advance, I could have left a plate of sweetgum balls on a tray and had snow truffles!

Now I said I was inspired by my friend Susan, who is known as a wonderful cake baker. She has long made cakes for family and friends, including wedding cakes and, more recently, beautiful fondant cakes. Family and friends were enlisted to help with her latest creation: A snow cake!

When I saw her photos of the cake on Facebook Saturday, I knew I wanted to post them here for you to enjoy! I joked with Susan that each layer was a different flavor: grass, twigs, leaves and pine needles, all with buttercream filling in between. I am only partly joking, though, because Susan really *did* attempt to tint the snow with food coloring to start with, but she says that didn't work so well. (Who knew?) And by the time this blog post publishes, we may just have snow in Georgia again. I can't wait to see what new snow creations await!

  1. As a Tennessee girl, I love snow -- probably because we never seem to get as much as I would like -- however,we got our third snow of the season last night. Your lovely white-themed tea party looks to be just right for the occasion, Angela. My cup definitely overflows this year! B-)
P.S. - Thanks for the sweet offerings last week. You are a dear!

  6. What a cute teapot snow sculpture and post. I took a couple of snow pictures, but nothing quite as creative and fun.
