Norpro Reusable Brew Bags

As many times as I've seen these over the years, I don't guess I'd ever tried using these muslin tea bags to make iced tea during the summer. When I saw these at a World Market over the weekend ($3.99 for a pack of 4), it dawned on me I could save some time I've spent straining off tea leaves in recent weeks.

I folded down the top of the bag, and it was easy to add 4 or 5 tablespoons of loose tea.

A drawstring closes the bag to keep the tea leaves all nice and tidy but still allowing some room for them to "swim."

I almost always steep iced tea in the fridge now. I put these tea leaves in when I left for work, and by the time I got home my tea was ready.

I think I'm going to like these do-it-yourself tea bags!

  1. What a lovely pitcher. Don't you love how easy it is to make ice tea by the pitcherful? I have been mixing tea bags - fruit tea with reg, or chai for a subtle flavor with reg. It is so refreshing.
I think the bags are a great idea...may look for them on ebay.

  2. How do you usually clean the bags? Do the wet leaves come out easily? Do you then just rinse out the bag or do you launder it?

  3. I do the same with a tea sock I buy at Upton's Tea. Sure saves having to strain and make a mess.

I just rinse my bags well - they are so inexpensive I have one each ofr black, green, oolong. If I think they are getting too "flavorful", I soak them with baking soda and water and rinse very, very well.

  4. Angela, is the bag easy to clean or do the leaves stick to the fabric? I've seen reusable bags but never tried them. I usually use paper t-sacs.

  5. Jemilyea and Ginger, I found it very easy to clean the bag by turning it inside out, and most of the tea leaves plop right out, with the rest easily rinsing off under the faucet. No sticking to the bag at all.

And I am going to use Marlena's excellent tip and devote one bag to each type of tea!

  6. Great idea, Angela. The pitcher is so pretty. Anything that helps with 'cool things off.' Have a great day, Joanie

  7. Nice! I will have to look for them at World Market along with the chocolate covered Cadbury biscuits another blog suggested.
