A new color palette for winter
Because January is such a gray, dreary-looking month, I've been in the habit of leaving up some "winter white" décor during this month. My late husband gave me the idea, as we had agreed that it was jarring to go from the bright lights and cheerful colors of Christmas to the dark-gray tones we usually see out of the window in January. So now, I hold back some "winter whites" and think of this as Christmas Decorating 2.0 to keep things cheery. I recommend it!My young friends came over for tea yesterday, and we used these blue-and-white Rosita snack sets, four of which I found for under five dollars at Goodwill a few years ago. My friends asked why I still have one Christmas tree up (I'd taken down all the others), and I explained that this was a wintertime tree. Basically, it's the same aluminum tree from Christmas but with only blue, silver, and gold ornaments.
My friend Deberah gave me this pretty vintage tea set one Christmas, and it is perfect for my winter decorating.
And I added a few winter whites here as well. I hope to add a new tea trolley and that longed-for perfect hutch to my dining room this year, and if that happens, I anticipate a lot more seasonal decorating!

Great idea to decorate for Wintertime. Helps keep winter doldrums at bay!
ReplyDeleteWinter decorating is a must. Then Valentines, then St. Patrick’s Day, then Easter. Your little tree is going to go through a lot of pretty transformations. I like your tablecloth. I had the same vintage cream and sugar in orange but sadly it was stolen when our home was broken into. Most of what they took were vintage items. That was 15 years ago now. Hugs, Elaine (in Toronto)
ReplyDeleteYour "winter tree" and snowflate tablecloth are so pretty! We do need some cheerfulness at this time of year.
ReplyDeleteI was going to comment on your last post, but this comment kinda covers that one and this one. My nephew often gives me a tea advent calendar as a Christmas gift, but since I usually receive it on Christmas day, I save it and start using it on January first. That way, I have Christmas for another month, plus something special to look forward to every morning during what is usually a very boring month. This year's calendar is from Benner Tea Company and each compartment has TWO tea bags, so now my days are twice as cheery!!!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so pretty!☺️
ReplyDeleteWhat an inviting dining room, full of light and sparkle and crisp blues! How lovely your little friends come to visit, I know you all enjoy those special visits. Have a happy rest of the week and stay warm and cozy and well. Best, Virginia
ReplyDeleteI love your tablecloth and tree! This is a lovey idea to decorate for winter. I just can't bear to take all my Christmas decorations down, the house looks so dull somehow afterwards, so I find myself leaving most of it up til groundhogs day! Lol
