Oops A Daisy!

Well, the paperwhites were lovely but the scent struck my husband as "rotten eggs," so the teacup planter on the dining table has a new occupant, this pretty yellow gerbera daisy plant. (At least I *think* that's what it is!) The hubby was guest speaker at a local Kiwanis banquet the other night, and I was the lucky recipient of one of the table decorations. Isn't this a nice pick-me-up after all the gray, rainy days we've had in Georgia lately?

I was reading a digital photography newsletter recently and its photography advice for the week was simple: Get closer! So I did.

And then I got closer still! I love photographing flowers and can't wait 'til I have some serious blooms in the garden this spring. Meanwhile, I will actually become a member of a garden club for the first time in my life a week from today! My friend Deberah (art director of the magazine I work for) and her sister Wilma are both talented gardeners, and they have organized the new Crossroads Garden Club. It's open to new members, and it will even have online memberships available. Since some of you local tea friends are garden-lovers as well, I wanted to be sure you know about the new club. Go here to visit Deberah and Wilma's terrific new blog and learn more about the Crossroads Garden Club!

  2. Hello Angela
Your gerber a is a beauty and your macro shot is fantastic. When I buy these as cut flowers, I have special clear plastic straws to slip over the stems to keep them straight.
As a horticulturist, I am pleased to hear of a new garden club forming. We have more horticultural societies here than garden clubs and that just means we have provincial backing for grants as well as structure for running the meetings.
    Enjoy your meetings.

  5. Well our sunshine lasted one day here in Ohio and today is grey and yucky out there.

Your bright golden yellow daisy was the "sunshine" I needed today!

Love the closer shot too- that was good advice. Thanks!

  6. The closeups are great. My new camera doesn't get close enough. I guess I'm saving up for a macro lens now :-)

  7. I have to agree with your husband on the scent of paper whites. I was so disappointed the first time I grew them..I had to put them outside.

I'm also the member of a garden club thought I'm not much of a gardener - I do love gardens. We're called the Primavera Garden Club& it's been around since the 1960's - it's not as high society as it sounds though. :o) We have a club tea in April & it's one of our most favorite events every year. I'm hoping to make one of the recipes from your book or blog at least to take this year.

  10. Paperwhites are definitely an acquired fragrance I must say. But I do love them, as I do this gerbera daisy too. Our garden just acquired 11 new rose bushes, so I am happily awaiting the day when I can pick roses. I snuck a little witch hazel bush in the garden too, that is when my gardener didn't look. You know, I just can't understand why he doesn't like witch hazel. Have fun in the garden club.
