Testing a new glass teapot

This is the new glass teapot I received from my sister for Christmas. I've had it sitting out for three months now but hadn't actually tried making tea in it. Then, I saw a photo of a cute terrarium in a glass teapot and thought hey, if my new teapot doesn't strain very well, I'll use it as a terrarium. So a test was in order.

The Simax teapot comes with a glass strainer with slits in the bottom for letting the liquid seep through.

I added five teaspoons of the Celebration Blend Tea I got at Fortnum and Mason in London on my birthday last May. (Still tastes great, by the way.)

Steeping, steeping, steeping. Would there be lots of little tea leaves left in the pot when I removed the strainer?

Nope, just a few fannings. So, that's great news for preparing tea, not so great news for the future terrarium project. On the other hand, I do have another glass teapot that didn't perform so well, and maybe some plants are in its future!

  1. Angela, your new glass tea pot looks like the one I used to have. Mine was Princess House. I loved it, but I broke it and I had to throw it away. Hope you enjoy you new glass tea pot as much as I did.

  2. I have several glass teapots I use for demonstrating brewing tea. They are also fun for "blooming tea", but I really liked the photo of the terrarium in the glass teapot, and can't wait to see photos of your upcoming project.

  3. Since this one works so well, now you can use the other glass teapot for your terrarium!

  4. I have a couple of glass teapots. I, like Linda, use them for artisanal blooming teas which must be seen to appreciate. They can even be used as centerpieces.

  5. I have two glass teapots, but have never seen one with a glass strainer/infuser. Mine have metal inserts. Glad you had success with yours!

  7. This looks like a nice glass teapot. Us tea lovers must always have one good glass teapot.
How big is that teapot! 5 teaspoons sounds like a hefty tea. Guessing you like them hefty.
    Sounds good though!

  9. I have one of these and I love it.

I had another one literally for 10 minutes and I went to go rinse it out and ever-so-barely-gently tapped it on the granite counter and put a crack in it. I keep silk flowers in it as a display now. I just couldn't believe I did it. I sometimes am the clumsiest woman alive.

You need to spoil yourself with one of those neat flowering teas and watch it open, it's such a treat for the senses!

  10. I've always wondered how the little slits would work. Glad to see they work well.

  11. The visual appeal of tea brewing in a glass pot is what I find enjoyable. What a thoughtful sister!
