How this happened, I do not know. My friend Deberah went on a cruise to the Caribbean in the fall of 2012, and she very thoughtfully got some beautiful tea towels for me while she was there. I meant to blog about them right then, of course, but for some reason I tucked them in the linen closet and forgot about them until I was sorting some tablecloths recently. There sat the bright green bag with the crisp new tea towels waiting patiently for their star turn. I love this pretty embroidery that's on four of the tea towels.
There are four of the embroidered ones and four that are all white with pulled thread work.
I tried to learn pulled thread work once, years ago, but I kept cutting off too many of the threads and that, alas, was that.
Here's another look at the white-on-white work. Have you see how hostesses these days are using tea towels underneath the plates in a place setting? I've seen these called "napkins" or even "table runners." Have any of you used them this way? And would you?
Always nice when something forgotten turns up and one can be excited all over again. I haven't used tea towels for napkins or runners although I have 2 nice tea themed ones I've never blogged about. (they do get used though)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise to find those towels again. They are lovely. I especially love the white on white. I don't have any tea towels nice enough to use under my china although I did treat myself to a little 'fingertip' towel or napkin I will be sharing one of these days.
ReplyDeleteYour "rediscovered" tea towels are lovely. While I love all my tea towels, I don't think any of them are nice enough to be part of a tablescape, so I've never used them as napkins or table runners.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tea towels. I have even hung them in my window for an improvised curtain. Love seeing them used as placemats too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I've not seen tea towels used as you described, but they would be pretty. Give it a try and see how you like it.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous handwork! I just love your little gems! Pretty Pretty!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! These are certainly pretty enough to use on a table.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty collection of tea towels. Such delicate embroidery scenes.
