A friend recently surprised me with a gift of some matcha-flavored chocolates, and I was so excited to open the box and find them!
I'd read about, but never actually sampled, green tea Kit Kat bars. Well, the new flavor from Nestle Japan is not just a chocolate bar with green tea on the inside. This one has a green tea flavored chocolate coating on the outside! (And boy, is it good, with a nice, lightly sweet and green tea taste.) With my treats came a fun article explaining that Kit Kats in Japanese are pronounced Kitto Katsu, which means "You will surely win," so parents and children in Japan buy Kit Kats on test days and game days!
I also received a package of the fun Matcha Latte flavor of Aero chocolates. The Aero candies are so named because if you let the aerated chocolates melt in your mouth, you can feel the bubbles melt!
I hope I never get too old to enjoy trying new candy, especially when it combines chocolate and tea! And guess what? I saved a couple of each to go in this week's Saturday giveaway, so be sure and check back tomorrow! My friend says if you want to try these yourself, look for an Asian market with a Japanese proprietor. I can promise you'll be glad you did!
so funny that you should write about this today as I have been exploring this very topic. See http://tea-room.stores.yahoo.net/orchbateaint.html for another brand of tea infused chocolates.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I think I would love to try these. They are both favorites of mine and to add a tea flavor sounds very interesting. I'll be checking back tomorrow. Thanks. Deb
ReplyDeleteI love the fun things you find! I'll be entering the giveaway tomorrow. :o)
ReplyDeleteThere is something so exotic about recognizable name brands in foreign packaging, tweaked for a foreign market. I was going to say I hadn't thought much about tea and chocolate together, but I have tried chocolate black teas, and the cup beside me is red tea flavored with raspberry and chocolate.
ReplyDeleteMy Japanese penpal always share fun matcha flavored treats in gift boxes she sends to me. She hasn't included any Kit Kat bars though... perhaps I'll drop a hint!
ReplyDeleteI think I had one of those kit kats in China! (It was good.)
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun, Angela! Blessings to your friend for gifting you with the tea infused candy so you could write about them on your blog. I'll have to seek out an Asian store. Wouldn't they be fun with a Japanese themed tea? I'm picturing a tea table set with Lusterware.
ReplyDeleteOh how NEAT!!!
ReplyDeleteI never heard of that before - what fun.
Those green tea Kit Kat bars sound wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThose chocolates look really good.
ReplyDeleteSteph and I did have the Kit Kats with our fellow travelers in China. There were also Green Tea Oreos and Cucumber Pringles and Blueberry Pringles. Glad you enjoyed your tea and chocolates.
ReplyDeleteHello Angela - these look delicious! I love trying new foods out. Right before Hastings closed, we had gotten in a shipment of Japanese candies: called 'Gummy Choco' (Muscat flavored), made by Meiji, they were so delicious. I bought a few boxes and haven't found them since - I am still on the lookout!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your great finds,
Joanie
Yummm! Love the humor of the Japanese for their children. These sound wonderful and delicious! I would love trying them too.
