A pop quiz

Today we have a pop quiz. What do these five patterns have in common?

This is a detail from the back of a Blue Willow pattern teacup, this one from Churchill. I once read that the three little guys on the bridge are humorously called "the communists" because they're always leaning left, and whether that label is true or not, they are indeed always leaning in that direction!

This teacup is in Royal Albert's Old Country Roses pattern.

This is one of my "everyday" dishes, Johnson Brothers Rose Chintz.

This is a dessert plate from Spode's Christmas Tree pattern.

And this is a Johnson Brothers His Majesty pattern dinner plate. I just finished reading a book which informed me these five patterns are all on a list together. A list of what? Any guesses? Tomorrow I'll tell!

  3. Must be most popular sellers. I have my grandma's Blue Willow set from the '40's and it seems everyone from that generation had them and the Country Roses and the Spode is such a classic. They are LOVELY. Dee

  6. I love them all and my guess would be the most popular sellers. I have Rose Chintz too and I am going to start using them every day instead of for good. They make my heart go pitter pat. Enjoy your day.

  7. What pretty patterns...
I'd say that what they have in common is that they are all made in England or at least all English manufacturers.

  8. At first I thought perhaps they were all English origin, then I decided that I think they are the top selling, most popular designs. Hmmmm, wonder what the true answer is?

  14. Either that they are all made in England or transferware. Hummm? Not sure.

  15. I would say that they are among the 100 most popular patterns of dishes.

  16. Lovely patterns! I have a plate similar to the last one, but the pattern is called "Wild Turkey Native American," also by Johnson Brothers (it also has "Windsor Ware" written on back). Picked it up for $1.00 at a tag sale once. Unfortunately, it seems to be very rare - and very expensive! I'd have enjoyed purchasing other pieces to use for Thanksgiving dinner. Heidi T.
