Guess who founded the American Flag Tea Co.?

I've been thinking about the fact that our country turns 250 this year, and I was wondering whether any tea companies ever had "US" or "America" in the name, so I was delighted to come across this graphic for the American Flag Tea Co. on the Library of Congress website.

Aside from the whimsical graphics, do you notice anything else here? I was struck by the name "E. A. Zatarain."

I mean, how many "Zatarains" can there be in this country, and indeed, Emile A. Zatarain Sr. of New Orleans founded the company whose Zatarain's mixes I still buy today when I want a fast version of red beans and rice or jambalaya. Just a fun little tidbit in America's ever-growing tea history!

  3. What an interesting find! Thanks for the information…Mr. Zatarain must have been an ambitious guy. We were recently traveling in Northern California, Sonoma county, and noticed acres and acres and acres of rice growing. Who knew? Happy weekend, Virginia
