Recommended Reading: The May 2025 Issue of "Our State"
Back when I was a local magazine editor, one of the tips I learned early on was to go outside my coverage area and read magazines from other states to get inspiration for story and layout ideas. One magazine I always enjoyed reading was Our State from North Carolina, but it's not sold anywhere locally anymore, alas. For that reason, I was more than a little excited when tea friend Susan in North Carolina sent me a package of birthday goodies that included this magazine!
I was most excited to see the famous Edenton teapot included. History lovers may be aware that in 1774, some Edenton women signed a letter vowing to boycott British tea to protest the Tea Act of 1773, and "this is considered one of the first known acts of protest organized by women in the colonies," according to the magazine.
There's also a piece about the monthly Japanese tea at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham.
And I've never even heard of Lazy Fox Lavender Farm, but doesn't it look wonderful? If all this sounds like your cup of you know what, you can order individual copies of the magazine here.

I’m so glad you have a copy - I was going to go back and get you one when I get home from FL. I might have to get a copy for myself!
