Road trip junkin' report

I've just returned from a trip to Statesboro to visit my friend Kathy, and boy, did we pack our days full! We had some delicious meals, watched the first three episodes of the new "Matlock" with Kathy Bates (a great show!), and shopped our hearts out! One of my favorite purchases was this vintage plate, a $4 antique mall find, because it features roses as well as some fall-toned florals. I love it!

And do you remember that violet teacup I showed you on Friday, the one with cutouts that look like either butterflies (my opinion) or teeth (Kathy's opinion)? Well, I've been gathering yellow and lavender goodies for some Easter projects next year, and along with that new violet teacup, I think this $2.50 crocheted doily will be perfect.

Another find in yellow was this dinner plate to match my Royal Winton Welbeck tea wares and dessert plates. It was marked $30, but the whole booth was half off, so yay!

And finally, I spotted (in an antique mall!) a Bath & Body Works hand soap I actually needed, this one with a yummy Sweet Tea & Lemonade scent. I came home with about three bags packed full of loot, but these were some of the more tea-ish finds that I wanted to share with you. Have you done any antiquing or junkin' lately? If so, what did you find?

  1. I'm glad you had such a fun visit to your friend Kathy! You found some really nice things. The crocheted doily reminds me so much of things that my grandmother Flora used to make. Your vintage plate with the roses and Fall flowers is so pretty!
My only antiguing venture lately has been a visit to my favorite consignment shop in Georgetown.. I found a nice large round silverplate tray there, and cute pair of sterling silver sugar tongs, with a leaf motif. I love sugar tongs, and I do use them when I have tea. But the one kind I refuse to buy are those with "chicken feet" on the end. Those were very popular at one point, so you see lots of them, but they just give me the creeps.

  2. Nice finds, and I hope you publish your Easter display! A recent find is a blue transferware dessert-size plate. I collect blue transferware when it's reasonable. I have cups and saucers so I should use it for a nice tea (snack) someday! With linen napkins!

  4. Hello, I know this is a long shot, but when I was 8 or 9 my parents took me to Miss Mable’s Tea house in Dickson TN. On an earlier blog of yours from 2013 you posted a picture of a recipe book from the tea house. I distinctly remember having orange rolls while eating there with my family. If there is any chance that you have the recipe and are willing to share I would greatly appreciate it. I had been trying to find the place where I had had them as a kid and go again, but I found out that miss mables tea house closed in 2009.

    1. Garett, I just checked my cookbook, and there are recipes for several orange-flavored tea breads but no orange rolls, I'm afraid.
