I've generally developed sales resistance when it comes to acquiring new teacups, but when I was in Goodwill this week, I saw this beauty for just $3.99 and couldn't say no. I have a real fondness for reticulated teacups, but I have a question for you.
Do these cutouts look like anything to you? They do to me.
A quick Google search revealed that this back stamp, marked Royal Halsey Very Fine, is from Lipper and Mann (the L and M on either side of the crown), which imported wares from Japan. But seriously, what do you see in the cutout shapes?
Lovely teacup and saucer. Butterflies seem to be flitting about the cutouts.
ReplyDeleteI see butterflies, for sure. And I love violets, too. What could be better with violets than butterflies?
ReplyDeleteI agree-butterflies. Very pretty set.
ReplyDeleteNever thought about the cutouts on saucers before, but those are definitely butterflies. They really give it a dainty look, don't they?
ReplyDeleteLooks like butterflies...or molars
ReplyDeleteButterflies were definitely my first thought. (And then, like Daniele K, I thought of molars! ) I've certainly never seen a reticulated saucer where the openings were shaped like butterflies. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI see butterflies. This is a beautiful cup and saucer
ReplyDeleteButterflies, how lovely…and violets, what a charming tea cup and saucer…I will be keeping an eye out for ‘L and M’ when I thrift. Thanks and have a lovely weekend. V.
ReplyDeleteI saw butterflies immediately!
