On dolls and tea and Christmas

Vintage Christmas cards and postcards with a tea theme do not appear to be that plentiful, but this week, I found a new-to-me vintage postcard on Flickr that we are free to use with a link to Dave here.

Isn't this a sweet image? I love that line about "you and your dollies so festive and jolly," and I don't hear that much about dolls anymore. Do you? When I was a little girl, Santa used to bring me those fancy dolls that were really for display, usually in a velvet or lace dress and with perfectly coiffed hair protected by a nearly invisible hair net. One doll I do remember playing with is Dancerina the ballerina. Do any of you remember your childhood dolls? I'd love to hear about them, especially if they joined you for tea!

  1. I love that postcard image! I mostly remember playing with Barbie dolls, my babysitter used to make clothes for them and I loved dressing them up. I do remember getting a "bride doll" one year for Christmas, she was beautifully dressed and I sat her on a table in my room. She was about twice the size of the American Girl dolls children love today. Didn't play with her much but I loved to look at her.

  2. I still have two of the dolls of my childhood...a walking doll and a ballerina. We spent many hours together and drank countless cups of pretend tea. Fun memories!!

  3. That's a very cute card! I especially like the Noah's Ark (I guess the animals are all inside). I was not much of a doll-lover as a child--I liked cowboy stuff better. But I did have one memorable doll, which my aunt and uncle from California brought to me one year. It was a "Betsy Wetsy" baby doll, and as its name implies, it would drink and wet. So I did a lot of diaper-changing! I even bought small containers of baby powder to use on her, so she would smell like a real baby. My Betsy Wetsy did NOT come to my tea parties--babies are too young for that!

  4. Cute cards. I still have my childhood dolls. I think Beans was my favorite.

  5. Absolutely love this post card! Interestingly enough, I told my youngest daughter last week, while we were making our annual fudge for gifting, that the one thing I missed about Christmas was getting a new doll. My dolls were always ones that could be played with, and yes, I do remember Dancerina. In fact, she's sitting on top of my cabinet in my sewing room right now. I also have Giggles, who can still giggle; Velvet and Mia, whose hair can still grow; and the Barbies I got when I was about 3 as well as all the clothes my grandmother made for them. I'm fortunate to have a few other dolls too, and we did have tea parties occasionally. I have the set of dishes I used as well. Hadn't thought of them for quite some time though. Yes, I loved my dolls and still do.
