My "Cup of Christmas Tea"-pot

Have you ever left something at a store and thought, "Sheesh, why didn't I buy that when I had the chance?" That's what I thought when I left this "Cup of Christmas Tea" teapot at a local antique mall over the summer. Actually, there were two of them, and they were very reasonably priced, but it was summer, for heaven's sake, and I didn't feel like buying a Christmas teapot in the summer.

So, I went back after Thanksgiving. There were no longer two, but there was one, and so I got it. And for $8, I thought this was quite the bargain!

This is the backstamp, which tells me this teapot is nearly 20 years old. It will no doubt be part of the decor at the Christmas tea party I'm hosting this weekend. The very day I bought the teapot, at another antique mall I actually found the matching cup and saucer set, but it was $21 and I decided I'd wait for a better price. Have you read the book "A Cup of Christmas Tea" which inspired this lovely line of teawares?

  1. That's something I do all the time and of course, when I go back it's always gone.

Your "Cup of Christmas Tea" teapot is beautiful (and a bargain). I love the book and also Tom Hegg's "A Memory of Christmas Tea".

  7. Fabulous! I did the same thing...but it wasn't there when I got back! There is a phrase in the antiques (and thrift store) business "if you see it and want it buy it...because someone else will!". So glad you got one.

  8. You were very lucky to still get the pot after passing two by. I passed up the opportunity to get the book this summer. Poor choice. You've given me hope, and I shall continue looking for it.

  9. Shortly after this came out, we were in OKC visiting family after Christmas. The ladies wanted to go to a particular shop after lunch. This teapot, cups, etc. were half off. I have enjoyed them ever since. I have a small table in the sitting room off of the master. Last year I set it with the teapot, 2 cups/saucers, and the large plate which says "A cup of Christmas tea."

  11. I have the book but none of the teawares. I'll have to start looking for some pieces. What a fun addition to Christmas celelbrations.

  12. I love this teapot, how very pretty. Isn't it nice when you go back and it is there waiting for you. I did that recently with a pillow at the store. There was only one and I didn't buy it. I went back this week and it was still waiting for me and marked down too. I just love my BELIEVE pillow.

I found the book last year in an antique mall. It's such a fine story.
