  2. I don't have one favorite piece of lace or linen, but I recently went to an art exhibit at the Finnish Embassy and saw a very interesting example of what a modern textile artist--Heidi Hankaniemi--did with bits of embroidery and lace that was beyond repair. She hated to see old pieces of hand embroidery thrown away, so she combined many pieces and made it into beautiful works of modern art. From the exhibit notes:"'The Blooms' consist of hundreds of floral embroideries brought together to bloom. The series started when Hankaniemi was recovering from a brain surgery and started going through her collection of vintage embroideries, collected over the years from flea markets across the World. While Hankaniemi was mending and gathering together the handicrafts made by anonymous women around the world, she was also mending herself. 'The Blooms' gave the before-discarded works a new life and a place to flourish in." You can see some of the pieces on her website https://heidihankaniemi.com/section/455829-Bloom.html --from Vernona in DC
