An unusual tea menu in the new Tea Time

It's always a happy day when a new copy of Tea Time lands in the mailbox, and I'm always eager to see what they have in store in the new issue. This time, however, there was a feature that gave me pause.

It's called "Doggie Days of Summer," and it suggests that you "bring your human friends and their favorite pooches together for an afternoon of tea and backyard fun." There's even a recipe for dog treats included. Now the cute little fellow in the background of the photo above looks a bit like a friend of mine's beloved Boston Terrier that I got to play with one week when I house-sat for her some years back, and indeed, tennis balls like those on display were some of his favorite toys. But … at a tea party? I think their heart's in the right place, but I don't think I would be comfortable with this idea unless it involved some neighbors whose dogs were already familiar with each other. What do you all think about the idea?

On a more traditional note, there's a lovely feature by Jane Pettigrew on tea places in Yorkshire that has me longing to book a trip. So, have you read the new Tea Time yet? If so, what caught your eye?

  1. My copy arrived in the mail last week, and I quickly leafed through it. I loved the photos of the Blue Danube china on pg. 2, 19-20. It would be beautiful on my new shelving units when hubby gets them finished. And I saw Nancy's Fairy Garden Tea Party and Donna's Jane Austen Tea Party listed in the August calendar. Loved the Fan Tea article [I bought the identical fan in Greenwich, London]. But I don't have any pets, so I skimmed right over the Doggie Days of Summer. Looking forward to reading Jane's article. I LOVE Tea Time Magazine!

  2. Pets at tea aren't for me, but I'm sure there are many who would enjoy it!

  3. I'm sure that there are people who would be delighted to take their dogs to tea. I have never had a dog quite that well behaved, myself, so it doesn't really appeal to me, as much as I like dogs. To each his/her own, I guess. Yorkshire looks delightful, though!

  4. Wish I had the issue before I went to York, missed it by two weeks. However I did get to Betty's, just perfect! York has no shortage of tearooms, tried to get to as many as I could.

  5. The book always arrives late in Canada and I would not be in favour of a doggie tea party. For one thing, my guy would be up eating everything he could reach and lapping everyone's tea. :-( And yes, dogs that have never met before would be busy sorting each other out, never mind the distraction from the daintiness of the occasion.
Well, that's more than my 2 cents worth. LOL

  6. I would not be in favour of a doggie tea party either. I think it would distract from our lovely get together and let's face it, not all pooches are well behaved. The front cover of Tea Time is wonderful as are the look of the treats!

  7. I was OK with the doggie tea for those that love their doggies. But I loved the one from Yorkshire too. A trip is planned for next year and on my list is at least one of those tea rooms.

  9. We visited a tea room once down the NJ shore, as we were walking inside we noted a cat roaming outside. After we were seated, the cat came inside - then they let it in the kitchen! Yikes - no animals at teatime! Needless to say - this tearoom has since closed its doors. Animals at our dining tables - no thanks!

  10. I'm not a fan of animals while I am eating. But it might be neat to make the biscuits for my own dog sometime.
