Victoria Classics Tea Pleasures

Last week I got an e-mail from reader Heather letting me know about a new Victoria Classics issue, Tea Pleasures. I saw it at Kroger over the weekend and, after flipping through a few pages, saw enough things that made me want to add this to my collection of tea magazines.

This photograph of blue teawares is one of the prettiest tea images I've seen in a while. I do enjoy a pretty, well-composed photo of teawares, and so often the teawares are pink, not blue, so this photo definitely caught my eye. In fact, it may even inspire one of my short stories this year. (By the way, let me just say a huge THANK YOU for your kind comments about my new Saturday series! I was a little concerned some of you might think this is one of the duller ideas I've had, so I can't tell you how it warmed my heart to read your encouraging comments. I promise to try to make it worth your while to read along this year!)

Victoria and Tea Time both feature food photography that often makes you want to stop and have teatime, and I absolutely adore these lacy cones filled with Lady Grey Cream and embellished with violets. (You shape these over waffle cones, which sounds rather fun.) Sometime near the end of winter these wild violets will pop up all over my yard, and if I can keep Mr. Tea With Friends off the lawnmower long enough to gather a few, I have several wild violet projects in mind.

The other great surprise when I got home with this issue was the feature on Greentree Antiques and Tearoom in Lexington, Kentucky, which I had the pleasure of visiting with some fellow tea bloggers last year. Funny enough, I saw this photo of the large skirted table at right and knew immediately I'd been there. Now isn't that a funny thing to recognize? If you haven't already gotten this issue for yourself, you may want to add it to your bookstore or grocery store list!

  1. I just bought this issue last night when at the drug store to get some flu medication for hubby. Sure hope he doesn't share!
Funny, I thought of you right away when I saw the cheese and pimento tea sandwiches. It would be awesome to recognize a tearoom featured that you'd had the pleasure of visiting.

  2. What beautiful photos! I love the blue and white, a story about that picture would be delightful. Love the violets as well (although I have never eaten them, they are my favorite flower). That skirted table is memorable, I'm not surprised you recognized it.

  3. I'm itching to pick up my copy ... this evening after our stitcher's group meets! Or maybe before . . . when I finish up my stitching, I can peruse the pages! :)

  4. Fun read I'm sure. I am not surprised your heard many positive comments on your Saturday series. I do think we should all get together for tea - great minds think alike they say! Going to Barnes & Noble tomorrow - I will take a look at Tea magazines too! Snowy here today - how about where you are? Cold? I love being stuck at home!

  5. Lovely! I love violets too, always look forward to their arrival in spring - but I think the ones pictured are african violets, which means we could try decorating like this anytime!

  7. I was lucky enough to win the giveaway of this magazine thanks to Heirlooms at Ashton House. There are beautiful things in this magazine and I learned something new. I didn't know you were suppose to cut your lemons in slices instead of wedges. And, of course, now I want to find a lemon fork!
Kimben (from Heirlooms at Ashton House) had written an article about Simply Scrumptious tearoom in Eureka Springs, Arkansas which I had visited several years ago. So it was fun to revisit it!

  8. I loved this issue, and blogged about it too. Isn't it fun seeing a place you've visited featured in a magazine? And how special that I got to visit Greentree with YOU!

  9. My dear daughter gifted moi with this new Victoria Classic. I had tried so hard to find the Christmas/Fall issue of Victoria Classic with no avail so when my daughter's gift came in the mail I was so sure it was the one I had tired so hard to find; I had not known a new one was out on the market at the time. I loved this issue. So well done with pictures to carry one away on a dark winter day over a cup of tea...of course.
    With a prayerful heart,
    Sylvia Faye
