Southern Breeze Sweet Tea

With iced tea season now upon us, I am happy to try some new varieties of iced tea. When I stopped by an Ingles grocery store last week, I was intrigued by this box of Southern Breeze Sweet Tea. Why?

According to the box of teabags, it "sweetens while you steep."

I also like the fact the box features a cute design of a rocking chair, but I suppose that's rather beside the point. I was curious to see how "sweet" this "sweet tea" would taste. Turns out, the sweetener is Sucralose, the no-calorie sweetener also known as Splenda. The tea was pretty good and definitely sweet, but it didn't quite have that classic "sweet tea" taste I was hoping for. I know some people are fans of artificial sweeteners and others are not. I'll use them in a pinch, but I prefer to avoid the aftertaste I always get with them. For that reason I generally drink my tea without any sweetener except for, on the rare occasion, good old white or brown sugar. Have any of you tried this tea? If so, what did you think?

  1. I would prefer to sweeten my tea to my taste and skip the artificial sweeteners, but it is an interesting concept.

  2. My hubby uses Splenda; it would be a fun tea to try for him someday. Don't believe I have ever seen this before. I will look for it. Thanks for sharing.

  4. That tea box is a pretty blue too! I don't add sweetener or sugar in my tea, but I often enjoy fruity tea blends for iced tea since they have a natural sweetness. I probably already drank a lifetime's worth of sweet tea when I went to college in Mississippi!

  5. I first saw this tea on Facebook - also sold on Amazon - but it is currently out of stock. I would love to give it a try - but I too prefer real sugar - but the name and sweet tea - I will definitely try it when I can. Thanks Angela!

  6. No I haven't tried it and don't buy sweetened tea especially with Splenda. Actually don't buy bottled tea in general, as I can make my own.

  7. I haven't tried this but I did get a coupon for it with my grocery receipt. I won't try it. It's too simple to make my own sweet tea
