Pop quiz: Name this tea accoutrement!

Oh, friends, I know it's not nice to kick off the morning with a pop quiz, but I've been dying for my new tea accoutrement to arrive so I could see if any of you know what this is!

I confess, when I first saw this I didn't have a clue what it was. I was looking for something else on eBay one day when this popped up in my search results and I thought, "Huh? What on earth?"

But then I read some more, and I discovered that while I did not have this particular tea tool, I actually *needed* it! Really. I did. So who knows what this is? Tomorrow I'll show you what it's for and the tea it's associated with!

  1. I would assume that it's like the back end of the mote spoon -- the little pick is to push the leaves out of the spout of the teapot and back into the pot.

  2. Are you sure it's not for opening letters while drinking your tea? :-). Just kidding, I have no idea.

  3. Hi Angela,

I believe that is a Pu-erh Pick and is used for picking apart the
Pu-erh tea bricks. I was fortunate to find a beautiful one on my trip to China a few years ago.

Enjoy your new accoutrement. I love the handle.

    Have a happy day,

    Mary Jane

  4. Something new to learn about! I'll "tune in tomorrow" to find out what it is, although I suspect Mary Jane is on the right track.

I had never heard of tea trivets, or seen them in antique stores, until reading your blog. Last weekend a friend gave me three of them--one for each of my daughters and me. I was quite excited and knew what they were right away!

  5. Can't wait to hear. It is pretty too. I have no idea what it could be. Martha's idea is a good one.

  7. I concur with Mary Jane... and just last week I purchased a wooden one with lovely little beads and string ornamentation attached to the wider end. It is stamped 'Puerdao' on the back. I also picked up a pu-erh cake at the same gift shop (The White House in NJ) in hopes to try out my new handy dandy gadget! Yours is beautiful!

  9. It looks like a very fancy pu-erh knife...but perhaps it's something else?

  11. I do believe Mary Jane was the first to answer. My thought was that or to clean out a clogged teapot spout.
