What's "In Bloom"

Do you like to wear fragrance? I sure do. I always reach for the ones in the floral/fruity range, and I just love having a new fragrance to spritz on as I'm headed out the door after dressing each morning. My newest is one from Avon, "In Bloom" by Reese Witherspoon. I'd gotten a sample from my representative and loved it, and then I (of course) waited until it was on sale to buy a bottle. I have to admit I don't like buying anything (clothes, jewelry, fragrance) endorsed by a celebrity, because most celebrities these days strum my poor nerves. I nearly bought a black pocketbook recently until I saw that it had a metal label bearing the name of a popular blonde pop singer. Ack! She doesn't carry a purse with "Angela McRae" on it, so why would I want to carry one with her name on it? But I digress. Reese Witherspoon is a celebrity I actually like, so I don't mind her being associated with my new fragrance.

It's the yummiest, headiest fragrance I've sniffed in ages, and the light floral is perfect for summer. I also love-love-love the bottle's crystal rose on top. Such a pretty design!

But it wasn't Reese or the rose that persuaded me to try this fragrance, it was the recipe, you might say. Read the ingredients and you'll see they include "peach tea leaves." Surely they meant to say "peach-scented tea leaves," but at any rate bless Avon for the idea of adding tea (or at least the scent of tea, since no camellia sinensis is actually listed) to this delightful fragrance! If you don't mind my being nosy, what fragrance(s) do you like to wear?

  1. Estee Lauder's "Pleasures Delight"
Thanks for asking. It made me look up the 'recipe' - which I had never done before. I just knew I liked it: "Top notes are pomegranate, freesia and wild strawberry; middle notes are peony, lily, heliotrope and lily-of-the-valley; base notes are patchouli, marshmallow, vanilla, caramel and rose."
Now I know why I like it!

  2. I enjoy wearing any true flower fragrance: carnation, rose, lily of the valley, sweet pea, gardenia. Some herb- lavender, grass, some sweet spice- clove and vanilla.
Some of my favorite fragrances are sweet Shalimar, Emeraude, Lily of the Valley, and Island Gardenia. Can't forget Johnson's Baby Powder.

Some of the old favorites created long ago are Violets, Tweed, Channel #5, Maja, and To a Wild Rose.

  5. I don't use many scented products any more - developed a chemical sensitivity a couple of years ago, and strong smells usually give me a migraine. But I used to love Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar, and Victoria's Secret Pear Glace and Heavenly. When I was younger I wore Obsession by Calvin Klein, Magie Noire by Lancome, and my all-time favorite, Chanel No. 5! When I was a teenager I wore Charlie, Love's Baby Soft, Emeraude, a couple of others whose names I can't recall anymore. I used to love perfumes and colognes, and really miss wearing them. It's funny how certain scents remind me of certain periods of my life - a whiff of Emeraude and I'm instantly reminded of my first "adult" relationship, and if I want to be transported to Egypt - my first trip out of the country, way back in 1978 - all I have to do is smell Chanel No. 5.

  6. Enjoyed your review, Angela - this sounds like a fragance I'd like.
The bottle's design is so pretty.

The Bath & Body shop has a nice, light summer fragrance - White Citrus. I keep it in the fridge and it's very cooling to mist it on. Take care, Joane
