Weekend hits and misses

Sometimes, an item's desirability is directly proportional to whether or not there's an "Everything Half Off" sign in the booth at the antiques store. Thus, this $10 teapot I'd seen before and was mildly interested in because of the word "Tea" on it suddenly became much more attractive when I realized it could be had for just $5. Fall decor, I think. (And that lovely season can't get here fast enough!)

I'm still finding myself drawn to old restaurant ware, and I loved the smaller luncheon size of this oval plate from Syracuse.

The red border on this plate appealed to me. I wonder which restaurant used this piece? I really must find a book on restaurant ware.

Finally, I was tickled to see a bone china teacup set in a Christmas pattern for just $5. I started looking for these a few years ago and learned individual Christmas teacups just don't appear that often. I felt the rim of the cup and the saucer and was happy both were chip free. A great deal, right?

Alas, no. Can you believe I missed this botched repair job on the handle? How did I let that slip my notice? Oh well, I suppose I can decorate with it or fill it with Christmas potpourri or something. Meanwhile, I learned that I need to remember to check the handle when I'm out teacup shopping!

  1. I feel your disappointment when I looked at that photo of the handle. Bummer! I've had the same thing happen.

  2. Love your bargains! and was really feeling a bit jealous when I saw your Christmas tea cup, and then my heart sank when you shared the poorly repaired handle. Well, it will be a nice holiday decoration at least. They were bad for not adding 'as is' to the price tag to alert you to the damage.

  5. Since it is for Christmas decor - tie a wired red ribbon right there and you will be able to forget about that crack.

  10. Bargains are always a fun thing. I actually have that Christmas teacup without the botched repair job and often use it for decoration or in pictures.
