"Cheap tea" and freebies

We've been drinking gallons of iced tea at my house lately, and I think my husband was feeling guilty about steeping my loose tea (not understanding that using up that tea gives me an excuse to purchase more!). At any rate, when he asked me to pick up some "cheap tea" for him at the grocery store, I knew exactly which brand I'd be buying, Red Rose, because I love their free Wade Whimsies that come in each box and hadn't gotten a new one in a while. (And yes, this tea does taste good!)

It's been quite some time since I last bought Red Rose Tea, and I was surprised to see they are still offering the Calendar Series of figurines. It's always so fun to open the box and see which one I've received. Kind of like Cracker Jack prizes for tea lovers!

Yay! I got the March figurine, which I did not already have. I like this little guy! Are any of you still collecting Wade Whimsies? If you're not familiar with them, go here to learn about these great little freebies.

Red Rose is my absolute favorite tea, and I collect their Wade figurines as well! My parents used to drink Red Rose, and they started passing along their figurines to me in the early 80's, so I've got quite a few.

They've stopped including figurines in boxes of tea up here; all I've seen lately are mail-in instructions for purchasing those you don't have (which I did myself). I can't wait to see what type of figurines are going to be available next! Red Rose's headquarters are actually located in an office building near mine, and every year they hold a Wade collector's conference in November in the town where I work. I haven't attended yet - hope to make it this year, though!

I've been told my Canadian great-grandmother drank Red Rose, and used to bring some down with her to the states whenever she came to visit. My mother says well-steeped Red Rose and a piece of burnt toast was her cure-all for whatever ailed you, lol. When I was in Nova Scotia two weeks ago, I bought a couple of boxes to bring back home with me in her honor! It's produced by a different company than in the U.S. - different box, different taste, and no figurines.

thanks for informing me. I use a different brand of cheap tea for my iced tea since we drink it so frequently over the summer. Looks like I might have an excuse to switch. I wonder if they include a figurine in the stores that I go to?

I don't think I've ever had Red Rose tea. I've always been a Luzianne iced tea drinker. I'll have to try Red Rose one day.

Angela I just love your blog. Everytime I come here I learn something new about tea! I don't know if we have Red Rose tea here in Colorado. The box does look familiar, I'll have to purposely look for it next time I'm shopping.

Hello Angela, I've never heard of these figurines, how interesting. Thanks for providing the link, very neat. I've been trying to stay cool so this is good news to have, Joanie

Now that is a cutie. I have several little figurines. I sometimes buy Red Rose tea for iced tea in the summer. It does work well.
