A drink with jam and bread

Do you remember the Do-Re-Mi song from "The Sound of Music" where they refer to "Tea, a drink with jam and bread"? That was on my mind this weekend when I decided it was time to use up some of the zucchini my friend Deberah has been supplying me with this summer. So, I made Zucchini Bread and had it with some very special tea and jam!

My recipe for Zucchini Bread is just a simple, basic recipe from the "Taste of Georgia" cookbook published by Newnan's Junior Service League. This hugely popular book has been in print since 1977, and my copy, which I've had for years, is a real "go-to" cookbook for me.

The Zucchini Bread turned out beautifully. I leave the zucchini unpeeled when I shred it, as I like to see the little flecks of green in the bread. And for a special treat, I enjoyed mine with a cup of Ti Guan Yin (from Harney) and some delicious Berry Berry Ti Kuan Yin Jam (from Marmalady's). The recipe I used made two loaves of Zucchini Bread, and I love that I now have an extra loaf in the freezer for when I want a treat but don't feel like baking!

  1. Yes, I do remember that song, but I have "If I Were A Rich Man" stuck in my head from watching Fiddler On The Roof yesterday.

I love the tea and toast plate that you used for your snack. It is so pretty. The zucchini bread looks yummy and that Berry Berry jam looks great - loaded with berries.

  2. What a treat! However, not unlike parTea Lady, I have "Angela's Ashes" on my mind, watched the movie earlier in the week and am listening to the unabridged audiobook read by the author, Frank McCort...so today I shall have a cup of Irish Breakfast (if I had a soda bread, would have that toasted). He winged his way to heaven yesterday. He surely did love his tea!

Therefore I propose an ersatz toast (cups up high, now), "Tea, a drink with jam and bread...
God bless us each and every one!"

  3. I love the Sound of Music (and like parTea Lady I watched the Fiddler in the Roof on PBS). Now about that bread- YUM! It looks so moist and delicious. I would have to forgo the jam-even from Marmalady! The tea set, oh it is so very pretty too.

  5. Hello Angela: another beautiful photo! The bread looks just delicious - and the plate is too cute. I think you have such great taste! By the way...what 'Antique Mall' is closing? I am curious, thanks for the update, Joanie

ps: I have "Broadway Show Tunes" in my head - the students are putting on a "Broadway Sensations" program at the Performing Arts Centre - beautiful selections, including "If Ever I Would Leave You" from Camelot. (One of my all-time favorites!) There are only three shows - this Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Hope you can come - it should be nice.

  6. Hi Joanie! The Atlanta West Antique Mall in Bremen is (sadly) the one that is closing. I think it's open through the end of this month if you want to go find a bargain!

  7. Angela, thanks for the link to "Taste of Georgia" as now, I am the proud owner of all 3 cookbooks published by Newnan's Junior Service League (by way of the Beautiful Downtown Newnan's own Scott's Book Store...which, by the way shows up in the movie "Fluke"...)

So now I am thinking of Art Garfunkel and the tune "My Little Town"!!!
